WHISTLEBLOWER FILES MEDICARE FRAUD LAWSUIT
A whistleblower lawsuit has been filed against Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and six surgeons that work there, alleging that the doctors routinely violate Medicare billing rules by having residents perform surgeries without their direct supervision. Medicare billing rules require teaching physicians to be present during critical portions of procedures.
The qui tam lawsuit claims that the Rush orthopedic center is “focused on quantity over quality and risking patient health in pursuit of ‘monetary rewards and celebrity status.'” The whistleblower seeks unspecified damages.
