TRINITY HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE INDICTED FOR IDENTITY THEFT AND BANK FRAUD

Former Trinity Hospital employee, Chelsea Catherine Stewart, from Alabaster, Alabama, was indicted for identity theft and bank fraud.  The federal grand jury passed down the indictment on June 28, 2011.  The charges include: identity theft; possession of stolen mail; attempted bank fraud, misuse of Social Security number; and aggravated identity theft.

Ms. Stewart was arrested earlier this month and charged by federal authorities with violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and wrongfully obtaining personal identifying information from Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Members of the public are reminded that an indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
