PLASTICS COMPANY SETTLES HARMFUL POLLUTION LAWSUIT

A $750,000 settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed against a plastics company in Ohio whose plant was allegedly emitting harmful pollutants that caused the closure of an elementary school. Three Rivers Local Schools chose to evacuate and close Meredith Hitchens Elementary School, which was across the street from the plastics plant, in 2005 when the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency warned school officials that the plant was emitting butadiene, a known human carcinogen.
