FACTA CLASS ACTION SETTLED AGAINST DICKINSON THEATRES INC.

A Kansas City move theatre company has settled a FACTA class action lawsuit.  Dickinson Theatres, Inc. was accused of violating federal law in a class action lawsuit.  The lawsuit alleged the company violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) as amended by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) when the move theatre printed customers’ credit card expiration dates on customer receipts.  The federal law was enacted in 2003 and signed into law by President Bush in order to protect consumers from identity theft.

As a part of the settlement, Dickinson Theatres has agreed to comply with the law and stop printing the expiration dates on sutomers’ receipts, will hand out over 300,000 bags of free popcorn, pay an incentive fee of $3,500 to each of the three class representatives and $75,000 in attorneys’ fees.
