College Students Warned of Identity Theft
As if choosing your classes, trying to find a place to live and meeting your roommates weren’t enough to worry about, the Better Business Bureau is reminding everyone that there are predators who stand ready to steal your identity.
Identity theft is not a priority for most college students.
But, as a student who is encountering many situations where you need to buy things, you may become an easy target for someone whom you believe is your friend.
A survey by Javelin Strategy Research concerning Identity Fraud for 2011, shows better than 8.1 million victims fell prey to identity thieves last year. A category known as “friendly fraud” swelled by 7%. Friendly fraud is perpetrated by someone you know. This would obviously, be a friend, room mate, or even a relative.
