CARDIAC SCIENCE RECALLS AED MEDICAL DEVICES

Cardiac Science Corporation issued a recall for its automated external defibrillators (AEDs).  The recall was prompted by the manufacturer because electronic components in the subject AEDs may fail and negatively affect resuscitation of the patient.  As a result, patients may suffer adverse health problems or death.

The models recalled include the following:

  1. Powerheart 9300A
  2. Powerheart 9300C
  3. Powerheart 9300D
  4. Powerheart 9300E
  5. Powerheart 9300P
  6. Powerheart 9390E
  7. CardioVive 92531
  8. CardioVive 92532
  9. CardioVive 92533

The manufacturer has already received 64 complaints regarding four resistors in some of the AEDs and 114 complaints regarding relay switch failure.  According to Cardiac Science’s recall notice, it will not be able to correct the problem until May 2010 when a software is available.
