POLICE MAKE ARREST IN MULTI-STATE ID THEFT RING

Police have extradited a Texas woman on identity theft charges.  The alleged identity thief, Tamara Turner, 31 of Houston, Texas has been charged with 18 counts of identity theft for stealing another woman’s identity and used a fake ID to open fraudulent accounts all over the US.  One of the victims, a Connecticut resident, claims an identity thief used her personal identifying information (PII) to open fraudulent credit cards with several retailers, including JC Penney, Macy’s and Victoria’s Secret.  Court documents indicate the fake driver’s license used by the identity thief was invalid and had incorrect PII.  The identity thief made over $8,000 in fraudulent charges in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police caught up with the identity thief by tracing the IP address used when applying for a Best Buy account online.  Police also have video footage of the suspect using the victim’s PII in Nashville, Tennessee.  Connecticut police compared identity theft complaints with Houston, Texas complaints and determined the suspect is involved in a national identity theft ring.

According to the FBI, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America.  One of the best ways to find out if you are a victim of identity theft is to request your free credit report.  Click HERE to request your free credit report.  Once you receive your credit reports from Equifax, Experian and Trans Union, review each credit report carefully for errors, including incorrect name variations, addresses, accounts and inquiries.  If you find incorrect information on your credit report, you should dispute the incorrect information with the credit bureaus.  For more information, contact attorney Micah Adkins for a free legal consultation.
